I visited the home I grew up in one last time before it’s scheduled tear down. I took several photos and then started doodling. It felt strange and good at the same time. No one was going to scold me for drawing on the walls this time… Once the house is gone (It’s about half way there now) I plan on documenting what grows in it’s place.

“12 years ago, I started documenting the farm I grew up on in Central Illinois. First focusing on the people who lived there and then the house where I grew up, which had been abandoned by my family. The house and farm, like many places found in the Midwest, are slowly falling apart because the younger generations have moved on. I haven’t let go of the memories of what the place once was, though. Through photography I continue to explore my relationships to the people and places of my family’s history.”

You can always go home again, even if it’s hard to find.
